a recently new twitter friend, bob tarte, seems to be an animal person like many of us here at the whimsey project.  he has written books about his animal experiences. read about them all at his website:  http://www.bobtarte.com/

someone(s) left me a decidedly unwanted christmas present.  the day after christmas i awoke to find the mailbox bashed!  i solved the problem like any self-respecting do-it-yourself-er would do; i cobbled it back together with duct tape!  a temporary fix, to be certain, but one that works for the meanwhile.

the lake is frozen again.  however, the ducks managed to keep an area open closer to the house.  thank you, ducks!  now i don't have to trudge so far to feed them.

sunshine the last few days.  while out one day, i saw a huge bird shadow fly overhead.  i love that!  it's a thrill to experience that.  it was my heron friend.  i don't even have to look up; i can tell by the shadow that it's my friend.

a few twitter photos i thought you'd enjoy:

thoughtful thursday

especially relevant the day after christmas!

my wise daughter, libby, has stated:  burn your candles and use your soap!
when gifted pretties think not of them as too special to use.  use them in order to savor the delight they bring. doing so truly honors the giver.

it's officially winter!  december 21st; the first day of winter and the shortest day of the year.

the shortest day of the year is about how much sunlight (or how little) there is during the day.  it won't be readily obvious this day as it's already dark and dreary. no sunshine but lots and lots of rain.  three weeks of ice and snow covering the earth has been replaced by riverlets of water or pools of water where there typically is none.

all the kitties, especially the outdoor kitties, love rough weather.  i feel sorry for them and allow them into the house.  they have decided they really like being inside.  it's becoming increasingly difficult to evict them; even on good weather days.  as long as everyone plays nice, they are welcome.

with the thaw came fluid water in the lake.  the ducks go from a small area of fluid water when the lake is ice covered to a "huge" body of water.  as they zip around in their new found freedom i wonder what they think about.  i think "wheeeeeee..................."  as i watch them enjoy all that room to play.

the final weekend before the christmas holiday mid week.  i wrapped the rest of the gifts last night.  after a bit of baking, i will be ready!  ho! ho! ho!  merry christmas!

thoughtful thursday

today's thoughtful thursday comes from "the happiness project," found at gretchenrubin.com.

it's the most recent entry, and a sentiment i rather like. "Don't wait until you have some free time. You may never have any free time."

how true. we so often put off starting big projects, or going on an excursion, or we start to dread the pile-up of tasks and chores that aren't immediately pressing, because we think to ourselves, "not right now; i don't have the time for that!"

but if not now, when? a project doesn't have to be completed the first day it's begun. an excursion doesn't have to be any farther than a walk around the yard to get autumn leaves or try and find four-leaf clovers. and tasks and chores will always be there, ready to be done in an hour, but will definitely keep if you leave it for another few.

so. how about today.

whimsical wednesday

it's national bake cookies day!  we are baking up a storm for whimsical wednesday (recipes were posted on monday's get ready....  for anyone to utilize). even though it's bake cookies day, you are free to make anything you'd like! cookies, cakes, candy.  enjoy!

this little elf was up early this morning and baked a batch of the three ingredient peanut butter cookies!  and they are yum!  my neighbors should enjoy as well as i give each home a small offering of goodies each holiday season.

Monday, December 16, 2013

get ready.....

get ready for whimsical wednesday!  it's national cookie baking day so we'll bake cookies.  here's a few quick ideas:

three ingredient peanut butter cookies

1 egg
1 cup sugar
1 cup peanut butter

mix together, plop by spoonfuls onto greased baking sheets, bake for 8 to 10 minutes at 350 degrees.   even quicker?  press dough into baking pan with sides then bake a bit longer.  cut into squares after slightly cooled.

don't want to bake cookies?  try chocolate bark candy

1 regular size bag of chocolate chips
1 tablespoon of shortening per cup of chips

mix together in a microwave-safe container.  microwave a few minutes, stir. continue until almost completely melted.  stir the chips until completely melted and blended with the shortening.  suggested additions:  nuts, m&ms, dried fruit.  spread on a sheet covered with foil that has been greased.  let cool and harden.  then break into pieces.

want a very simple cake recipe instead?  (we are flexible at the whimsey project!)

1 box of angel food cake mix
1 can of pumpkin pie filling mix (not pumpkin but the mixture ready to pour into a pie shell)

mix together.  pour into a greased large rectangular cake pan.  bake at 350 degrees for approximately 25 minutes.  test with toothpick for done-ness (pick comes out clean).  if needed, add time by 5 minutes.  no icing necessary unless desired. vanilla ice cream or whipped cream with cake is yum.

the first snow of the season continues to linger.  more than a week later, new snowfall is adding to the already present 16 inches.  lots of snow.

this week i was able to witness turkeys scratching for bird food.  after munching corn, they wandered along until they came to the edge of the lake.  since the lake is frozen, they continued to walk across the lake.  then up the far bank and disappeared into the woods.

the winter birds, like the wee juncos, are busily visiting the thistle feeders.  for the ground feeding birds, what lands on the snow is dinner!

it's been so very cold that the outdoor cats have been invited to be inside.  the house is full of fur but everyone is safe and warm.

television programming is currently replete with sappy christmas movies.  i've seen them all!  and watched old favorites again.

whimsical wednesday

we are writing in our memory books and/or notable notebooks this whimsical wednesday.  what is a memory book?  any notebook in which to write random memories.  what is a notable notebook?  any notebook in which to jot down thoughts, ideas, quotes, interesting tidbits.

since our part of the world is still covered with a sheet of ice and 16 inches of snow, my memory book was filled with snow days off of school when my siblings and i were children.  the best time ever was when we built a snow tower in the front yard. mom took our picture with it.  a few years ago, my sister turned that photograph into the neatest christmas card for just us!

maybe you have a memory of snow you would like to inscribe in your memory book!  don't have a memory book?  this whimsical wednesday is a great day to begin one!

thoughtful thursday

thanksgiving begins the reminder of the abundance many of us are fortunate to enjoy.  although, most likely for children, the season of abundance begins at halloween!  as we prepare for christmas, with lots of tasty food to munch and many gifts to give and receive, think of those who are in need.  consider these options and more to prepare for christmas:

*donate to the local food bank, participate in toys for tots or any other organization's christmas program.

*share baked goods with the local fire and police departments; leave something for those hearty souls that collect the trash.

*if there are children in the family, have them sort through their toys.  there is always something they have outgrown or no longer play with to give to other children.

*for those who are alone or dealing with a recent loss, send a christmas card or give them a gift; from secret santa if you wish.

truly, it is in giving that we receive the most.  warming hearts is my favorite holiday activity of all!

it's get ready for thanksgiving day for whimsical wednesday!  do something fun that will contribute to your holiday; by yourself or with others.

the grandchildren and i created a centerpiece for the table.  we simply scouted about the house and outside for plates, candles, small natural items like acorns, rocks and pine cones.  then we arranged them on a tea towel on the table.  we also cut out turkey shapes to put on the holiday table.  on these we will write our blessings.

thoughtful thursday

the art of gratitude.  being thankful, grateful for whatever good is in one's life, however simple, is an important component in living a healthy life.  this is not a platitude or to discount the truly negative events in life.  the old saying, "i complained i had no shoes until i met a man who had no feet." is an inadequate summation of gratitude but will have to do for the purpose of thoughtful thursday.

a bit of psychological background via the theory of abraham maslow's hierarchy of needs.  maslow posited that an individual cannot even begin to reach for self-actualization until basic human needs are met: food, water, shelter, security, safety. only once these needs are met and continue to be met over time can a person strive for the abstract needs of being fully human:  love, friendship, belonging, esteem, morality, creativity, acceptance of self and others.  this process occurs naturally, not by any force of action by the individual.  all of these needs are tied to the characteristic of motivation.  we do not choose to be motivated; we are, like breathing, motivated.  what we are motivated toward changes with our needs.

citizens of more modern societies more or less have their basic needs met. therefore, it's a given that those needs are rarely thought of as anything more than normal.  even though, for everyone, basic needs can be withheld for just about any occurrence; such as a extreme natural disaster.  until the norm changes, individuals are automatically motivated toward higher level human needs.  this is the point at which the old saying about no shoes versus no feet becomes important.  it is even more critical for living a healthy life to remain focused on gratitude for all that is good in our lives.  be thankful for what makes quality of life possible while striving to met continued needs.

i'm grateful for soap, hot water, vision to look at all the wonders of nature that surround me daily, a brain that more than adequately allows me to think and ponder about such concepts as a hierarchy of needs for human beings.  the list of what i am grateful for is longer than i could impart in this space.  it's enough to state that i am mindful of my extreme good fortune to live as i do.  today and during the next week leading to my favorite holiday, thanksgiving, make your mental list of all that is good in your life.

whimsical wednesday

it's whimsical wednesday and our activity is to hunt (learn) something new about thanksgiving.  perhaps use this new found knowledge to incorporate into your thanksgiving celebration.

this morning i took an extensive tour of the internet seeking information about thanksgiving.  several sites touted themselves to be about the REAL thanksgiving. those i read thinking i would find out a lot about thanksgiving.  i did. it's a given that a lot of what we "know" about all sorts of celebrations, persons, events are a mixture of fact and fiction.  it just evolves that way over time, whether by concerted effort or happenstance.  but what i discovered new about thanksgiving nearly ruined my (our family's) favorite holiday of the year:

*there was a first thanksgiving that was good between native americans and english settlers but it was a singular event.

*thanksgiving was offered by the english settlers for having successfully murdered hundreds of native americans and themselves "spared".

*some native american nations observe thanksgiving as a day to remember the murder of their ancestors and/or protest against the injustice to them by the american government.

*president franklin roosevelt deemed the official thanksgiving the fourth thursday of november.  to please merchants, novembers with five thursdays offered one more week of christmas shopping.  this changed the official thanksgiving day put into place by president abraham lincoln.

*the most famous parade, the macy's thanksgiving day parade orginated in order to bring attention to the store and entice more customers.

*professional football has been played on thanksgiving since its inception.  collegiate football has been played on thanksgiving for at least a century.

*this week, in the news, it was announced that major stores will be open on thanksgiving day instead of waiting to open for business on friday after thanksgiving.  this is hardly a surprise.  while black friday has been a thanksgiving holiday weekend tradition for many years, last year some stores opened for business on thanksgiving night.

it seems thanksgiving was about slaughter, shopping, self-promotion and sports. how disheartening.  then i read an article about thanksgiving by a native american. the author allowed that, yes, the history about thanksgiving cannot be changed and it's best to accept reality.  however, he offered further, that giving thanks for what is good about life is a long held tradition by native americans.  the day set aside on the fourth thursday of each november was as good as any other day to observe a special day of thanksgiving.   i was encouraged.

moving along, i turned my attention to looking for ideas for thanksgiving table decor; thinking festive would brighten my mood.  as i browsed different websites, i came across one idea that caused me to laugh out loud.  one idea was to use a canning jar to house a medium sized column candle.  the material used to hold the candle in place was pop corn kernels.  my first thought upon seeing the pop corn was that the heat of the candle would cause the pop corn to pop and what a mess that would be!  of course, the candle's flame would not be hot enough to pop the corn kernels but it was fun to think of the possibility!  perhaps i will utilize the idea of the candle in canning jars but will use small rocks for the stabilizer.

whew! what did you learn about thanksgiving this whimsical wednesday?

thoughtful thursday

a few days ago, my sweet wee doggie, waif, walked over and stood next to my chair. she looked up at me as she raised herself on her hind legs, beseeching me to pick her up.  i obliged and she sat on my lap, allowing me to stroke her and talk to her for quite some time.  this would not seem unusual to anyone who loves dogs. however, this is the first time waif has done this in the few years she has lived with me.  while i was pleased about her want for my company, it caused me to wonder why this moment for such an interaction. regardless of why, she choose a particularly poignant time to initiate closeness.

people are amazed at the love and closeness of inter-species relationships, like a giant turtle and a goose being inseparable.  we humans are amazed but we rarely take notice that, with our dogs and cats, we also have inter-species relationships. the love and closeness we feel with and for our animals makes them a member of the family.  when we experience the loss of these very loved family members, a huge gap is left in our hearts and in our homes.  perhaps waif sensed that i was experiencing sadness when she came to me; sadness for friends who recently lost their beloved dogs.

waif and i send love to all who love special animal(s) and we honor the memory of those animals who have left our company.  our lives are enriched because of them.

whimsical wednesday

it's memory books and/or notable notebooks this whimsical wednesday!  a memory book is any notebook one uses to inscribe random memories about anything.  a notable notebook is any notebook one uses to jot down ideas, thoughts, quotes, interesting bits of this and that.

both are enjoyable activities for me.  the notable notebook gets more attention than the memory book because i'm always reading something somewhere i want to keep. i have found, with the memory book, if something comes to mind i should stop what i'm doing and write the memory.  if i don't, i often lose what it was i wanted to remember.  the memory returns, but it's not the same as when i was first inspired. because it takes longer to write in the memory book it's much easier to put off than the notable notebook.  that factor is the main reason to set aside one whimsical wednesday a month to pay particular attention to the memory book.

my first activity of this day was to open my memory book and write about the enchantment of a hard frost glistening in sunlight.  this fall scene has enthralled since i was a child.  it never fails to impress no matter how old i grow.  what a pleasant way to begin the day and to enjoy whimsical wednesday.

aesthetic fascination is the theme for whimsical wednesday.  what is aesthetic fascination?  it is finding an object beautiful or interesting and is held onto even though it has no purpose or is unwanted. there is no explanation as to why we find objects aesthetically fascinating so just go with it!

this morning i walked about the house to seize upon objects of aesthetic fascination. here's a brief list of what i discovered:

*packing material for the inside of a box to hold an item in place.
*lichen that fell off the maple tree in mom and dad's yard.
*the base of a broken glass container.
*kitty whiskers.
*strips of paper thin bark that fell off of birch trees.
*length of embroidery floss knotted by granddaughter when she was about six.

the saga of stuff continues!  fortunately the house was relieved of several large plastic bags of items earlier this week. gone are they to reside with someone else. that feeling of accomplishment gives me the strength and energy to continue. should i begin to falter, there are those who are ready to support my efforts! yay! do some fall cleaning of your own and reduce your amount of stuff!  (if nothing else, it frees space for those new items that might come your way this upcoming holiday season.)

whimsical wednesday

we are observing guardian angel day for whimsical wednesday.  do something for someone you know or someone you don't know.  doesn't matter what, just be someone's guardian angel if only for today.

i decided to be a guardian angel to my mother for this special day.  she's been ill and coping with the death of my father. since she lives far away, i ordered flowers to be delivered to her.  the arrangement selected is bright and cheerful. she loves receiving flowers. the bouquet is sure to please.  mission accomplished!

it's fall!  happy fall, everyone!  such a lovely time of year.  the tips of leaves are noticeably changing from green to bright colors of reds, oranges, yellows.  the break in the summer heat has brought cool breezes. perfect porch sitting weather, watching the world of the farm and sipping tea.

a mama deer and her twin fawns call the farm home.  this morning i saw them walking over the dam.  the water of the lake was so calm that they were perfectly reflected. a breathtaking sight!

the berries on the bittersweet have begun to pop open.  yellow wrappings open to reveal bright red-orange berries.  as the leaves fall from the vines, the berries take center stage.  gorgeous!

pumpkins are everywhere!  people sure like pumpkins.  and why not?  pumpkins make people happy!  they are tasty fine as well!

it won't be long until the corn across the road is harvested.  the land will, once again, be accessible to the deer and turkeys.  because of the stubble of the cornstalks and grain left behind, animals will be drawn to feed there.  looking forward to observing to all the animals coming to dine!

stuff.  we need it.  we don't need it.  most of us definitely have too much of it.  this fact isn't readily evident on a daily basis.  however, disrupt a room to repaint and replace flooring and the stuff from that room fills the house like a flood.  instead of water, however, it's a torrent of items!!!  this has been my experience of late. i resolve to rid myself of the majority of the stuff cluttering the house and very little to nothing will return.  even then there will be too much stuff!  make it a priority not to become overwhelmed with stuff. keep only that which is necessary or overwhelmingly meaningful.

whimsical wednesday

what tickles your fancy?  tickle your fancy is a saying that is defined as something that amuses, entertains or appeals to someone.  this whimsical wednesday we are creating a list of those items, experiences, sensations that tickle our fancy.

my list (definitely incomplete):

*woolly worms crossing the road in fall.
*distinct, distant laughter of children at play.
*driving over an overpass while a train passes underneath.
*wee spider webs in the grass glistening with dew.
*any bird or flock of birds that fly low overhead.
*the sound made when driving over a brick paved street.
*a stray plant growing through a crack in cement.
*colorful birds pecking at birdseed on snow covered ground.
*bright moonlight that makes the earth glow.
*puppies or kittens sleeping in a heap.
*babies looking over the shoulder of the person holding them.
*falling stars.

today's whimsical wednesday was planned for us!  it was mom's 88th birthday and there could be nothing but her birthday celebration!  she had a wonderful day. calls, cards, her party!  her party, planned so nicely by my sister with the help of our friend, was grand.  family and friends gathered for lunch at my sister's house, which was festive with decorations.  lunch was tasty, the company pleasant and fun, the gifts surprised and pleased.  a most excellent whimsical wednesday!  happy birthday, mom!

thoughtful thursday

my house has been disrupted for several months due to painting and new flooring installed.  as a room is completed, it has been put back together.  in the past week the items have been replaced in the living room; special because the items that fill the room are pieces of art.  all of the pieces are personal, having been created by someone i know or myself or a gift from someone i care about.  as each piece was lifted out of the boxes they were stored in and unwrapped, my reaction was that of meeting old friends!  each item held in my hands and put back into place filled me with the memory of that particular piece and the person who shared it with me. when all the boxes were empty and each piece once again home in the living room, it was a pleasure to savor the moment.  that room, because of all it holds and how what it holds makes it feel, is my favorite room!

whimsical wednesday

the first cafeteria in america opened in new york city on september 4, 1885!  this was the theme for today's whimsical wednesday activity!  what did you do?  think of your cafeteria experiences?  eat at a cafeteria? cook a favorite cafeteria dish?

for cafeteria day for whimsical wednesday i thought about the silly song my sister and i used to sing when we were little dorks (now we are big dorks).  it was one of many songs on a 45 rpm record we played over and over and over again.  our favorite?  the cafeteria song!  the words:

i've eaten in all of the diners.
in hamburger places as well.
i've eaten in drug stores and restaurants alike,
some were the best in the town.
alas comes our school cafeteria;
so nice, so clean, so neat.
but you'll wonder how we are still living,
when you hear what they gave us to eat!

on monday we had bread and gravy.
on tuesday it's gravy and bread.
on wednesday and thursday it's gravy and toast,
which is nothing but gravy and bread.

on that day we went to the principal;
to ask for something instead.
so on friday for lunch in a way of a change,
we had gravy without any bread!

i'm laughing with happy memories as i type.  i taught this song to my children and then my grandchildren.  if my sister reads this, hopefully she'll correct any errors in the words as it was a very long time ago that we sang this silly song over and over and over again (we drove our brothers crazy)!

a quiet house.  a quiet house is the result of a full house that has become empty. empty of occupancy.  the occupancy that brings laughter, sharing, discussion, chores, support, love and caring.  in the quiet that results, savor those moments of a full house; recall, remember, revel.  a quiet house is then still very, very full.

thoughtful thursday

the grandchildren's visit officially ends later today.  they will be here through the weekend, but their mother will be joining us.  we are looking forward to her being with us, however, her addition definitely changes the dynamic.

we have (of course) kept a journal of our days together. the journal, begun during the very first visit here without parents, recounts all we do together. all three of us write in it each day. we keep an accounting of the visit(s) in order to allow their parents to peek into our daily doings because, as everyone knows; remembering everything just doesn't happen. the journal allows for questions to be asked and prompts conversation.

keeping the journal has become a ritual for us. as time passes and there will no longer be summer visits between grandmother and grandchildren, the journal will be memories preserved. perhaps the grandchildren will enjoy reading about their visits to the farm when they are older. and perhaps they will share the journal with their children someday!

we're creating shadow silhouettes this whimsical wednesday.  what is needed?  a hard surface like a sidewalk, chalk, sunshine and two persons!  one person stands on the hard surface with the sun at the back while one person traces the shadow with the chalk.  then change places!

whimsical wdnesday

it's particularly preposterous packaging day for whimsical wednesday!  (for more information on PPPd, see the get ready post for monday, august 5th.)

reader suz sent a photo of the packaging for the inkjet cartridge she put in her printer:

often it's the least elaborate, seemingly simple packaging that drives me crazy!  that "just tear here" on a package of cheese that will open the package DOESN'T just tear here!!!!!  i usually have to resort to scissors to open it.  the package comes complete with one of those "zippers" that is supposed to make re-sealing the package simple.  simple!?!?!  i can never get the zipper to close and stay closed so i roll the package "closed"and secure with a rubber band!  or the bottle of over the counter medicine i opened this morning?  plastic seal around the lid that has a tear off here area.  for me, this results in the same action as with the just tear here on the cheese package: scissors!  unscrew the lid and there's a foam cover on the opening of the bottle.  that never just tears off for me so it's scissors time again.  get that off and look inside the bottle. it's stuffed with cotton!  for me that's particularly preposterous packaging!

a suggested activity for today was to wrap a gift for someone with particularly preposterous packaging! there's lots of packaging around here (the recycle bin in the garage).  throughout today i'll sift through the recycling and what's still in the house and, when inspired, add that to the day long gift wrapping session i'll be enjoying.  a photo will appear at some point here on the blog.

not something you see every day!

one of my favorite whimsey days, NOT SOMETHING YOU SEE EVERY DAY! it's your opportunity to share a crazy, zany, atypical, giggles experience with us!

Monday, August 5, 2013

get ready.....

we'll be celebrating "particularly preposterous packaging day" this whimsical wednesday.  particularly preposterous packaging day is dedicated to all the crazy and overblown packaging in which products are cloaked in, as well as the insane instructions that come on or in the packaging.

for whimsical wednesday, look at packaging you might still have at home from recent purchases or those on store shelves.  take note of elaborate packaging and/or seemingly ridiculous instructions.  share those with us!  additionally, consider creating elaborate packaging of your own.  wrap a gift for someone who would enjoy the fun of unwrapping it.  the gift doesn't have to be delivered on wednesday, just wrap one for future gifting.

here's how the blog, occasionally speaking, describes the day:

August 7 - Particularly Preposterous Packaging Day

We've all encountered them at some point. Our long awaited, hard earned purchase out of our reach as it's encased in hard plastic, cardboard, and impossibly strong tape! Today is set aside for us to moan and complain about the consumer packaging that provides us with so many challenges. Today is also a celebration of the incongruous package directions and instructions that are often the result of very literal translations. Here's a couple of examples: "Do not use while sleeping" (found on a hairdryer box); "Not to be used for the other use" (instructions for a Japanese food processor); "Do not iron clothes on body" (instructions for an iron). Have a laugh and try not to hurt yourself opening your purchase!

for whimsical wednesday's christmas in july, i created christmas cards.  since i am the post card queen (i can say all i need to say on a post card!), i stamped 50 postcards with a christmas image and utilized my nifty spica pens to add colored hightlights! i even got my return address stamped on the cards! now, i think i'll watch a christmas movie!  ho ho ho.......

it's yellow pig day for whimsical wednesday!  briefly, the yellow pig was created by two college students in the 1960s in association with a math assignment to consider the properties of the number 17.  (see link posted on monday of this week for more information about yellow pig day)

for my yellow pig day observance, i selected the smallest room of the house (excluding the bathrooms) in order to find 17 items that included the color yellow or were completely yellow.  the results:

computer modem plug-in
blanket
calendar cover
drink can cozy
dog toy
flower pot
picture frame mat
photograph of sunflower
tea towel
dish
title on video cassette jacket
vase
chip bag
dead leaf on plant

today i'm thinking about how success, and how it doesn't have to be huge and cast in broad strokes. it can be as "simple" as realizing a goal that we've set our hearts on achieving. which makes me think about the luna troop, a dance group founded by sarah heston. their mission was to return once-dancers to the joy of having dance in their lives, to nurture developing talent, and to share dance with an audience. they have achieved all of these goals, and then some, and it fulfills and makes each involved to do such. success, indeed!

the hummingbirds have returned to the feeders. the honeysuckle blossoms have faded, reducing the allure of those plants.  i missed them, especially at the feeder that hangs inches from the dining room windows.

the wee duckling census is four.  they grow larger each day.  everyday they survive the perils of the wild, the larger they grow.  the larger they grow, the more likely they will survive and enjoy adulthood.  every day i cheer them on!

all of the ducks typically swim close to the bank of the lake and watch me scatter their food. when i am finished and walk back toward the house, they hop out of the lake to chow down. this morning it was as usual until i made noise the little ones didn't like. they were halfway across the lake in no time with mama quacking after them as fast as she could paddle!

mama raccoon continues to bring her four little ones to the maple tree looking for munchies.  the munchies are there since munchies keep them out of the bird feeders.  the little ones are so cute, scampering across the lawn to their destination.

whimsical wednesday

this whimsical wednesday we are preparing for father's day!  plan a surprise, bake cookies, make and send a card, whatever the dad in your life would enjoy.

this will be the first father's day observed without my father actually present as he died in january.  recently my sister gave me a bag of items that belonged to dad. among them are several of the multitude of his yearly pocket calendars; which are filled with daily entries about what happened each day.  on father's day, weather permitting, i will sit on the porch with a cup of tea and read what dad's pocket calendars have to offer.  and, if inspired, will create something about dad in my art journal.
