thoughtful thursday

e.h.

you are not your age,
nor the size of clothes you wear,
you are not a weight,
or the colour of your hair.
you are not your name,
or the dimples in your cheeks,
you are all the books you read,
and all the words you speak,
you are your croaky morning voice,
and the smiles you try to hide,
you're the sweetness in your laughter,
and every tear you've cried,
you're the songs you sing so loudly,
when you know you're all alone,
you're the places that you've been to,
and the one that you call home,
you're the things that you believe in
and the people that you love,
you're the photos in your bedroom,
and the future you dream of,
you're made of so much beauty
but it seems that you forgot,
when you decided that you were defined,
by all the things you're not.

what do old books smell like? according to a team of chemists who researched the question, old books smell like "a combination of grassy notes with a tang of acids and a hint of vanilla over an underlying mustiness".

whimsical wednesday

we will be undertaking an investigation for whimsical wednesday. look in the kitchen cupboard and select an item that is sold by weight, such as a can of vegetables, a box of dry pasta, a bag of chips, anything you wish to select that has not yet been opened. open the package and count how many chips, green beans, spaghetti strands. how many is contained per weight of the package? report your findings to the whimsey project. (did you munch any while counting?!... *giggle*)

*this morning counting commenced when a new bag of chocolate chips (weighing 1 pound, 14 ounces) was opened in order to move the chips from the bag to a container. the bag contained 907 chips. a discovery in the counting that was somewhat satisfying: the chocolate chips were irregular in shape and size. and, yes, i did munch while counting!

miscellaneous monday

my 2020 time capsule is already underway! what is a yearly time capsule? a yearly time capsule is any container in which to hold anything an individual wishes to place therein. the items placed in the time capsule represent special occasions, events, adventures, every day undertakings; anything you might wish to recall at the end of the year. on new year's eve 2020 or new year's day 2021, a fun activity will be to look through all the items placed in the time capsule to remember, recall and enjoy the past year.

whimsical wednesday

it's journal writing day for whimsical wednesday; an endeavor we undertake in months that have five wednesdays. if you don't keep a journal, today is a great day to begin.  what type of journal should one keep? for reference here are my journals:

*a personal journal.
*a memories notebook in which i record random memories. since i don't write in this notebook every day or all that often, really, when a memory comes to mind i write it on a list of memories i keep for when i do write in the memories notebook.
*a themed notebook in which i record life on my farm.
*a notable notebook in which a record random ideas, thoughts, quotes, etc.
*the daily whimsical moments notebook in which i record a moment (or moments) each day that particularly caught my attention; moments that provoked thoughtfulness, a smile, a laugh or something to share with others.

keeping any journal is a wonderful way to pay attention and connect with life, self and others. what manner of journal do you keep that is unique to yourself that others might employ? share with the whimsey project.

new year's resolutions are a thing of the past for me. however, as of today, i resolve to refrain from liking anything else on twitter to share with fellow whimzees. i just spent a few hours getting to the "end" of the 8,165 likes that i have saved dating back to may 17, 2011.  no doubt that is more than enough whimsical finds to share.

whimsical wednesday

it's the first whimsical wednesday of the month as well as the first whimsical wednesday of the year! for 2020, the on-going project will be about learning something new on the first whimsical wednesday of the month. this learning endeavor will be individually determined so what do you want to learn: a new art or craft? play a musical instrument? take classes? explore a new country? french or other cuisine cooking? birds or other animals?

my activity will be to learn how to play the ukulele. i have no clue why i wish to learn to play the ukulele, however, i am going to give it a go.

what will you learn on the first whimsical wednesday of the month in the year 2020? share with the whimsey project.

miscellaneous monday

having been away new year's eve and new year's day, i have yet to be able to look through my 2019 time capsule.  i am looking forward to doing so very soon. did you look at your 2019 time capsule? share your experience with the whimsey project.

the gathering of items for the 2019 time capsule was a very pleasant activity to enjoy throughout the year. let's do it again for 2020.  if you didn't have a 2019 time capsule, having one for 2020 is a great year to begin.  find any container you wish to use and, throughout the year, fill it with items that represent an event, experience, special moments, anything that you want to recall on new year's eve 2020 or new year's day 2021.

another daily practice for the whimsey project is keeping a daily whimsical moment notebook. if you do not keep such a notebook, today, for the year 2020, is a great day to begin.  in any notebook or writing vehicle of your choosing, record a daily whimsical moment. if there's more than one moment that really caught your attention, record them all. there's never too much whimsey to enjoy!

happy new year! for those who did not do so last night on new year's eve, enjoy celebrating the first day of 2020 by looking at the items in your 2019 time capsule. it would make for a whimsical family activity for the holiday. what item sparkled a memory you had forgotten? how about something that surprised you? did something make you guffaw or cause you to be pensive? share your experience with your 2019 time capsule.
