whimsical wednesday

it's whimsical wednesday and we are taking a journey! it's a picture journey.  look through magazines or online to find a picture of a place you would like to be right now.  your current mood might influence where you'd like to be. the picture can be of any place; a museum, a restaurant, a cozy room, an exotic location on the other side of the world. it might even be your own home for which you need no picture! enjoy your journey and share your "i'd like to be here right now" location with the whimsey project.

this is the place i would like to be right now:

(my bucket list is very short so the wish to visit the glass beach is very special.)

are you adding to your 2019 time capsule? what is this? at the beginning of the year, we gathered a container to hold all manner of items throughout the year we wanted as reminders for the year's events. we included the 2018 holiday season to begin our collection.  if you haven't been keeping a 2019 time capsule, today is a great day to being. collect a container to hold ticket stubs, programs, cards, gift wrap, postcards or whatever else you have that will help you remember a 2019 event. for a new year's eve or new year's day activity, we will look through all the items in our 2019 time capsule container.  mine is stuffed and there's still four months to add to it! wheeee.....

solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project. our day to spend time with a book. my book continues to be steven feld's sound and sentiment: birds, weeping, poetics, and song in kaluli expression. this book details an ethnographic study of sound as a cultural system among the kaluli people of papua new guinea.

solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project. our day to spend time with a book. i am reading michael faquhar's a treasury of royal scandals: the shocking true stories of history's wickedest, weirdest, most wanton kings, queens, tsars, popes and emperors. wow! talk about people behaving badly; eye popping examples of extreme hubris!

whimsical wednesday

it's the first wednesday of august; our day to make connections for whimsical wednesday. call, write, email, text, send a card to others. get together with people you haven't seen in awhile. surprise someone with something, anything, no matter how simple or small (such as a single flower, a few tea bags, their favorite candy). everyone likes to be thought of and it means so much to both giver and recipient.

my whimsical wednesday connections will include writing a bunch of catch up letters to people who have written me that need responses. and, for a surprise, i will give a friend a bottle of spice (powdered lemon of all things!) i found online that she had been unable to find locally. and make arrangements to get together with friends on a later date.

postcrossing! i received an email from postcrossing on saturday, august 3rd wishing me a happy postcrossingversary. i have been postcrossing for three years. in that time i have sent and received 185 postcards from all around the world including the united states. when cards arrive in the mail, they are admired or giggled at, dated and put in the postcrossing card box. there are no plans for the cards other than to store them at this point. throwing them away is out of the question as they represent so much and they are potential art journaling fodder! every one who participates in postcrossing does it differently. my practice is to send five or six cards a month, all prepared in one session and mailed at the same time. if you might be interested in participating here's the link to making friends around the world:
