solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project. our day to spend time with a book. i am reading bill bryson's the road to little dribbling: adventures of an american in britain. while not a sequel, it is something of a companion to notes from a small island.

whimsical wednesday

it's a road trip game for whimsical wednesday! what is the most unusual, interesting, funny billboard you observe? if you won't be on the road, look at the billboards in your location. report your sightings to the whimsey project!

*update:

home from the road trip! the coolest billboard observed was an image of rosie the riveter with these words:

"women. getting things done since forever"

i can't even report what was being advertised because that got lost in the awesomeness of the message.

another billboard that i thought was funny was one that read:

"your ad here"

that could be another whimsical wednesday! we can write billboard ads!

here's a photo i took of an ad on the side of a building, seen along a city street; not a free standing billboard on the highway, it made me laugh with the wonder of "really? what next?!" i would like to visit that kitchen.

whimsical wednesday

goodreads recently asked, "what is the first sentence of the book you are reading?"  instantly i thought what an awesome activity for whimsical wednesday.  sooooooo...... what is the first sentence of the book you are reading?

the first sentence of the book i am reading:
"there are certain idiosyncratic notions that you quietly come to accept when you live for a long time in britain."

whimsical wednesday

for whimsical wednesday we will prepare for father's day. make homemade cards and/or gifts, select a charity or other organization to make a donation to in honor of a deceased father, think of those who are important to you like a father and remember them on father's day. if it is possible for you to be with your father, make plans to be together on sunday.

i am crafting with my young friends, for their fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers; homemade cards and a homemade bookmark!

whimsical wednesday

it's the first wednesday in june! (june?!? how did that happen?...) our day to make connections. reach out to others in person, via telephone, a letter or card in the mail, text, email or by other electronic means. this month, make a concerted effort to actually speak to someone. i recently listened to a podcast about connections. studies have indicated that actually talking to someone and hearing their voice does more to help well-being than connecting through other forms of communication; especially when someone is in crisis. as always, you are invited to share your experiences with the whimsey project.

miscellaneous monday

a word about whimsical wednesday. the activities offered for our whimsical pleasure are done on wednesday because there's that header "whimsical wednesday" that's just irresistible and it offers a mid-week boost. however, there is nothing precious about wednesday. should you wish to engage in a whimsical wednesday activity and wednesday isn't your day, involve yourself another day. it's all good.
