  1. This is a true story of something that happened to me on my way to work once:

I have, literally, a five minute commute to work. On a bad day, it can go up as high as ten minutes. Today was a REALLY bad day. There was an accident on the main street of my commute, and the people involved were standing in the middle of the street, shouting at each other (no injuries, luckily). No one was thinking to pull over to the side of the road or anything, which would have been, you know, sensible. So four people, shouting, middle of the road. Everyone else? Not knowing what to do. Me? Screaming: JUST STOP GAWKING AND PULL AROUND THEM!

Eventually I got past the four car accident and continued down the road, until I hit another slowdown. No, not another accident. Just a woman, walking down the street, carrying a GOOSE in a sack. As I was approaching, I could see her struggling with the sack, but I didn't recognize it as a goose at first. I was thinking, "Why doesn't she put that dog down -- wait. Is that a cat? Or no, maybe she has ferrets in the sack -- oh my god, she has a HUGE GOOSE in a sack. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?"

And the goose was freaking out. She was struggling to hold him and he was flapping around in the sack, beating her with his wings. His head was out of the sack and he was whipping it around frantically, looking for a way to escape. Now, really, I can't blame people for slowing down to look at this, because how often do you see a woman and a goose fighting on the side of the road?

However, the woman and her goose in a sack were right next to the college. And there were parking problems. People were parking everywhere - students running out in the middle of the road, horns honking, residents were outside, standing in their driveways to keep the students out of them, and so on. The reason? Yom Kippur. Yes, there's a huge temple across the street from the college, and they had a cop out there who had blocked off all the on-street parking (on both sides of two streets) with orange cones, to reserve it for the people coming to services later. So people were trying to move the cones, the cop was yelling at them, AND! There's an elementary school next to the college, and the cones were blocking off *their* parking and their schoolbus drop-off, on their side of the street. So the crossing guard and the cop were arguing, and the schoolbus drivers was yelling at the cop to move the cones and the cop was refusing and the principal was coming out, and OMG IT WAS PARKING CHAOS!

Finally I got around it, but the goose in a sack? Very weird. I can't figure out where she was going with that goose. No where near water, in any case. I worried for him. But seeing him beat her? Made the whole thing worthwhile.
