whimsical wednesday

we're getting ready for valentine's day for whimsical wednesday! simple, elaborate, store bought or homemade valentines will please recipients.  in addition to the usual family and friends we remember, think of a dozen people you know or know of who could benefit greatly from the pick me up of a valentine's card.  if you don't wish to be known to your recipients, sign them from a special friend.

my valentines are ready to put in the mail when the time arrives.  mine are simple, homemade postcards as usual.  i'm all about the simple because i will actually make them without the impediments of elaborate, time, materials.  my recipient list grew to many.  hopefully the many will enjoy.

how about you?  get your valentines going or the task finished for whimsical wednesday? share!

solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project.  our day to spend time with a book.  any book will do, however, think about selecting those books that have been sitting on the shelf for awhile.

today's reading of may brawley hill's grandmother's garden: the old-fashioned american garden (1865-1915) centered on the 1890s.  during this decade, the first published works on the garden in companion to architecture was published.  the garden was recognized as important to the setting of design and space as the buildings the gardens enhanced.  also, as time passed, the original grandmother's gardens had become partly historical.  to keep the colonial gardens viable, written publications had to share this history.  many artists used the the garden as a subject.

what are you reading? share your book with the whimsey project.

solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project. our day to spend time with a book. read any book; paying particular attention to those books that have been waiting on the shelf to be read.

my journey through grandmother's garden: the old-fashioned american garden 1865-1915 by may brawley hill, continues.  during the 1860s the aesthetic movement helped to reinforce the notion of the old fashioned or grandmother's garden.  in the 1870s those who supported the aesthetic movement lamented to change from country living to city living, old farms becoming summer homes for the wealthy.  so the time of the aesthetic wouldn't be forgotten, writers and artists spent much energy in capturing what was valued as grandmother's garden.

what are you reading? share your book with the whimsey project this solitude sunday.

whimsical wednesday

we're seeking song renditions for whimsical wednesday!  if you have a favorite song or one you just like, look on you tube (or elsewhere) for another artist's interpretation of that song.  you might find more than one that you like a great deal!

as a young child i watched the wizard of oz for the first time.  it was magical and scary.  dorothy gale was someone i could relate to but she seemed larger than life; especially when she sang over the rainbow.  one season on the program, dancing with the stars, jewel made a guest appearance.  she sang over the rainbow.  i've never forgotten how amazingly touching her version was.  then i heard a young man from hawaii sing over the rainbow.  it was so beautiful it made me cry.  never having sought out these artists sing over the rainbow, i did so today.  while at the you tube website i listened to other versions of over the rainbow and added those to my favorite list.

solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project. our day to spend time with a book.

this week gears were switched.  the history of impressionism just wasn't holding my attention so a change was in order.  today i began reading grandmother's garden: the old-fashioned american garden (1865-1915) by may brawley hill.

filled with illustrations, paintings and archival information, grandmother's garden is a lovely array to behold.  in addition, how the american "native" garden, commonly known as grandmother's garden, evolved is presented.

what are you reading? share with the whimsey project.

solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project. our day to spend time with a book.

today i read the first chapter of the histpry of impressionism by john rewald.  the salon in paris and the academy ruled with an iron fist, making art distinctive and truly creative, impossible.  by the end of the chapter, many artists, who became the impressionists, began to resist.

silly saturday at the whimsey project! our day to share silly stuff to make us grin, giggle, guffaw.

a story related to me by my daughter about one of her friends:

katie and her sister were watching a cooking program on television.  the happy announcer stated, "coming up next; how to use leftover cake."  katie and her sister looked at each other, asking, "who has leftover cake?"  *click* channel changed!
