whimsical wednesday

it's national salad week and we are seeking different ingredients for our rabbit food for whimsical wednesday!  use this link to discover different wild plants that are edible and would make tasty for a tasty salad:

armed with the list of plants from the above link, i was out early this morning hunting wild, edible plants. it was relatively simple to find dandelion greens, plantains and wild onions as they readily grow in the not very pristine grass.  the day lilies aren't up as yet and the spring beauties have come and gone. the rest of the plants on the list are either too far afield for me or don't grow here. not being too keen on salad for breakfast, the edibles have been washed and put in the refrigerator until lunch. the taste test results will be reported later.

it would have been need to find the wood sorrel or the sheep sorrel as they have the taste of lemon; one of my favorite flavors! also, recently i read in the wildflower book that may apples, or berries as they are technically referred to, are edible as well! these also have a citrus flavor. now that i know i shall endeavor to find and try!

what wild plant edibles did you find for your salad this whimsical wednesday?

  1. my edible wild plant salad was tasty fine. the plantains have a mild flavor, the dandelions are peppery and the onion less pungent than store bought (mostly because they were very young plants. might have to try more edible wild plants for salads!
