solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project.  our day to spend time with a book; any book for as long as you have time to devote to it.

last sunday night i finished the second in thomas cahill's hinges of history series, the gifts of the jews. not wishing to wait to begin volume three, i began to read immediately. this volume, desire of the everlasting hills; the world before and after jesus, was amazing. i write was because i finished it today. mr cahill offers a history of the world leading up to the birth of jesus to begin the book. this foundation made such an impact on the discussion of the life of jesus. so much more context that allowed for greater understanding. after jesus the discussion turned to how the jews that believed in jesus as the messiah broke from those that did not to form the christian faith. intertwined throughout the volume is how the scriptures are presented, how they relate to one another, the historical factors, the authors of the books of what became the bible. wow! time for volume four.....

what are you reading?  share your book with us here at the whimsey project.
