solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project.  our day to spend time with a book.

the thomas cahill series, hinges of history, have been so engrossing that i have been reading almost every day throughout the week. accordingly, i am now reading volume five, mysteries of the middle ages. in this work, i finally find myself on somewhat familiar ground.  the mysteries of the middle ages marks the historical event of the merging of judeo-christian and greco-roman cultures to create a singular western civilization. one important feature of note for me is how artists of the middle ages left the greek ideal behind and created an art form that was truly their own. depictions in all forms of art went from cool, sleek, distant to warm, full, accessible.

what are you reading?  share your book with us here at the whimsey project.
