solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project.  our day to spend time with a book.  any book you have long wanted to read; pick it up and enjoy today, for an hour or fifteen minutes!

my book is the fourth in thomas cahill's hinges of history series:  sailing the wine-dark sea; why the greeks matter. thus far i have read about helen of troy and the face that launched a thousand ships, the trojan horse, why honor in all things especially matter and how much the greeks cared for each other and family. in the eighth century before christ, the alphabet that we know and use today began by the greeks.  they took hebrew and hieroglyphs and pictographs; blending these together with symbols they created to better express their thoughts.  not knowing much about the ancient greeks, this is a slow read for me as i am working at understanding. just the type of reading i enjoy!

what are you reading? share your book with the whimsey project today!
