solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project.  our day to spend time with a book. any book will do, however, perhaps focus on those long waiting-to-be-read books resting on your bookshelves.

the period of the influence of japanese art and culture on american art was the focus of my reading of robert hughes', american visions, the epic history of art in america.  after commodore matthew perry arrived in japan in 1854, the world of japan opened to america and europe. the first american artist of note to be influenced by japanese art was james a.m. whistler of "whistler's mother" fame.

what are you reading this solitude sunday? share your book here at the whimsey project!
