solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project. our day to spend time with a book. any book will do, however, pay particular attention to those books that have been waiting on the shelf for awhile.

grandmother's garden:  the old-fashioned american garden (1865-1915) by may brawley hill continues.  the late 1800s and the early 1900s brought the arts and crafts movement to the fore. this perion afforded women the opportunity to earn money through their talents in the arts and crafts. crafts included the crafting of homes, thus the craftsman style in architecture. the leading gardening magazines published articles detailing the type of grandmother's garden that would be the perfect match for the new craftsman homes.  it is during this period that garden plans included vegetables amid the flowers.

what are you reading?  share your book with the whimsey project.
