solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project. our day to spend time with a book.

my journey through, robert hughes' american visions: the epic history of art in  america, continues. i'm definitely making progress with this very thick book as i'm actually really about the 20th century.
a few tidbits i've learned:
*the 1925 exposition des arts decoratifs in paris brought forth the last universal decorating style. know everywhere as art deco.
*hugh ferriss was a trained architect however spent most of his career rendering the designs of other architects.  his drawings of proposed buildings were, themselves, works of art.
*polar opposites in style and sensibility, the painters edward hopper and jackson pollock were the most original american painters.

what are you reading? share your book with the whimsey project!
