solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project. our day to spend time with a book. read any book; paying particular attention to those books that have been waiting on the shelf to be read.

my journey through grandmother's garden: the old-fashioned american garden 1865-1915 by may brawley hill, continues.  during the 1860s the aesthetic movement helped to reinforce the notion of the old fashioned or grandmother's garden.  in the 1870s those who supported the aesthetic movement lamented to change from country living to city living, old farms becoming summer homes for the wealthy.  so the time of the aesthetic wouldn't be forgotten, writers and artists spent much energy in capturing what was valued as grandmother's garden.

what are you reading? share your book with the whimsey project this solitude sunday.
