solitude sunday

solitude sunday at the whimsey project. our day to spend time with a book; especially those that have been waiting to be read for a long time.

treasures from the attic: the extraordinary story of anne frank's family by mirjam pressler.  after the war the frank family attempted to regroup.  they learned that edith, margot and anne have died in a concentration camp.  otto survived.  anne's diary became a book, thanks to the hard work of her father, otto.  the book was translated into many, many languages. then there was a play and a movie. most of all there was the anne frank foundation dedicated to promoting peace.  as difficult as it was for the entire family, they supported and were involved in the foundation. as time passed, the older generation died, leaving the anne frank legacy to the younger generation of the frank family.  buddy, anne's favorite cousin, and his wife, gerti, has carried on the foundation and work that the diary sparked in her father.  a very sad book to read but enlightening.  after reading anne frank's diary and how it ended, one has had to wonder about the rest of the family.  now we know.

what are you reading?
