whimsical wednesday

whimsical wednesday at the whimsey project! today we are TRYING our hand at origami, the art of folding paper. use a pattern or just start folding to see what you end up with. that's art: realistic or abstract! there's such a thing as origami paper. i don't have any. it does that a square piece of paper. i have small squares of note paper that i will be using. use what you have or cut a square. the goal of today's activity to try, delve. you don't have to know how, you just have to try. whatever the final result, you did it! here's a link for you to look at if you are in search of a pattern:

  1. i spent most of the morning trying to make something via the art of origami. i thought i could just figure it out by looking at the picture and somewhat following directions. that didn't work so well. on to plan b. i actually practiced the four basic folds: valley, mountain, inside reverse and outside reverse. the first three fold were straightforward. those i understood right away. i must have spent an hour trying to figure out the outside fold. i had to look for more directions online to do so. several websites were helpful. i mastered the outside fold. with one square of fresh paper (i folded several until they were falling apart) i made a valley/mountain fold. one one side i made a reverse inside fold and the other side i made a reverse outside fold. when i was finished i discovered i had created a doggie! a doggie with one ear up and one ear down. all it needs is a face, if i elect to do that. wheeeee..... i tried and i did it!
