the takahe. a large, flightless bird native to new zealand. it was thought extinct until 1948 when it was rediscovered by geoffrey orbell.  just one of the amazing tidbits read in a short history of nearly everything by bill bryson!

  1. .02 acre--the size of the America's smallest National 'Park' located in Philadelphia. Actually, it's a building, the former residence of Thaddeus Kosciuszko, a Pole who fought in the Revolutionary War.
    (The park service is 99 years young today--Aug. 25, 2015)
