whimsical wednesday at the whimsey project! today we are examining a page in a book. select a book. a coffee table sized book offers the most possibilities for the activity. select a page with lots of words (coffee table books often have photographs). after selecting the book and the page in the book, get ready to begin with paper and pencil. read one page of the book. every time there's a punctuation mark, write that mark on the paper. after getting to the end of the page, look at the results!
the photo shows my results. there are a lot of ). , - ; ( and the markings on the paper reminds me of woodstock talking to snoopy. his word bubble is filled with scratchings! the patterns the punctuation marks are lyrical to me. this activity would make a great addition to art journaling; that's the next step. share your page!

the weekend was one of magical experiences; filled with family, friends, fun. a baby shower for first time parents; my nephew and his wife. a neat gift request was for everyone to bring a book for the little one's library. each book was inscribed by the giver. mom and dad glowed as they opened the gifts. the food was tasty fine. there was much talking and laughter. as if that wasn't enough excitement, the next day we had a surprise dinner to celebrate my sister's 60th birthday and her and her husband's 40th wedding anniversary. hubby was not surprised as he had a clue but sister was definitely surprised! two of their three children attended as did their closest friends. there was much talking and laughter. a magical weekend! one that leaves a glow that lingers.

there's a chapter in the weird and wacky facts book featuring amazing laws and lawsuits. here's one that caught my eye: in galveston, texas, it is against the law for camels to wander the streets unattended.

whimsical wednesday
we're reading a book for whimsical wednesday! not an entire book exactly. select a book you haven't read. read nothing but the first and last pages. what did you learn about the story from reading the beginning and the end? share your book with the whimsey project today!
we have a box of books ready for the charity resale show. i selected my book from the box; waggit again by peter howe. it's a young readers' book. with a dog on the cover of the book, i inferred the story is about a dog and waggit is the dog's name. reading the first and last pages of waggit again, it seems waggit was somewhere he didn't want to be, escaped and made it back to where he wanted to be. all the pages in between must detail his adventures along the way. maybe i'll read the in between pages to the little ones and we'll find out about his journey together.

dr kimball and mr jefferson: rediscovering the founding fathers of american architecture by hugh howard continues. today's reading was about george washington being sworn in as america's first president. while he was a highlight, the star of that day was the redesigned city hall that was the site of the ceremony.

whimsical wednesday
it's a challenge for whimsical wednesday! all that is necessary is a piece of paper, writing instrument and a pair of scissors. the challenge? draw a straight line. cut a straight line. give it no thought. put pencil to paper and draw! in another section of the paper, take the scissors and cut from one end to the other. how straight was your drawn line? how straight was you cut line? what do you think of your results? are you tempted to "fix" either? draw/cut again? get out a ruler? leave well enough alone? here's my results and determined to leave well enough alone!

miscellaneous monday at the whimsey project. our day to share stuff we don't share the rest of the week. bring on your miscellaneous!
it's the eleventh day of christmas! remember the twelve days of christmas? the actual holiday season beginning on christmas day and ending with epiphany in early january. i'm old enough to remember when christmas decorations didn't go up until after thanksgiving and that was only in stores. it was a big deal for the store decorations to be unveiled. it was a holiday activity to window watch and peek in stores to be awed by the excitement of the transformation. homes were decorated during the month of december; sometimes very close to christmas eve. christmas is lovely and wonderful to celebrate. however, it is disconcerting that christmas starts so early now and is over by the end of christmas day. wonder what the season would feel like if the twelve days of christmas were still observed?
last week's whimsical wednesday was preparing our 2016 whimsey journal. every day or every day determined, write a whimsical moment from the day in the whimsey journal. this can be a pocket planner or calendar, notebook paper, whatever you wish. i began mine january first. how about you? if you haven't already, it's never too late to begin to find whimsey in each day

hugh howard's, dr kimball and mr jefferson: rediscovering the founding fathers of american architecture is what i am currently reading. it is an interesting juxtaposition of early american architects (especially jefferson) and a discussion of how dr kimball reestablished their position in american history.
