solitude sunday

it's solitude sunday; an opportunity to spend time, whatever time you wish or have, with a book!  this morning, i got more acquainted with abraham lincoln over tea. the book i am reading is filled with photographs.  it's neat to actually see the people, places and events of lincoln's presidency as well as read about it all.  what are you reading?

  1. I'm reading 2 books at the moment. One is a memoir by Kristen Chenoweth. She is the singer who starred as Glinda in Wicked on Broadway. I have always liked her as an actress and singer. The book starts with her activities and interests, talks about college and then on to her show business career and all the hard work she has had to put in to make it in show business. I haven't made it to "Wicked" time yet. I did not know that she has a Master's Degree in Opera! Now that is an actress/singer who is serious about her craft.
The other book is a Downton Abbey book. It is all about the cultural, difference in ranks of class, styles, history and such of the early 1900s when the TV show is set. It has been interesting to learn about England and all the class differences, expectations for aristocracy and working class, history of large houses during the war and how quickly life changed with the war and progress with automobiles, telephones, trains, etc. Of course, it is all tied into the different characters in the show which makes the whole thing even more interesting!
