thoughtful thursday

be resourceful.  there's more right in front of us than we realize.  this reminder came to me watching the birds during the polar vortex we have experienced during the past week.  last summer i hung a thistle seed feeder on the bird feeding station. that particular treat went untouched until the earth was covered with ice and snow. now the thistle seeds were much sought after by all manner of birds; not just the small ones that a mesh feeder is designed for.  the small birds pecked at the feeder and, in the process of getting seed, seed fell to the ground.  here larger birds and other small birds could also eat.  it wasn't long before the larger birds tried to get seed from the mesh feeder directly.  soon after the large birds tried to feed directly from the food source, a large hole appeared in the mesh feeder.  the large birds had access to the seed as well as scattering much of the seed on the ground.  now all of the birds congregate at the bird feeding station to munch thistle seed from an altered mesh feeder!  resourceful.  and not just for the birds!
