solitude sunday

solitude sunday.  the day we have set aside to spend time with a book for whatever time you have to devote to the weekly endeavor.

the book i am reading about abraham lincoln is divided by the years of his presidency instead of chapters. month by month, the book explores lincoln and the prominence that the civil war occupied his time and attention.  i have read to the end of 1863. what confounds is how poorly war is executed, how vain, self-interested and stubborn military leaders are.  and the soldiers who blindly, for all the right reasons, fight. the saving grace of managing to read this book is how many interesting facts and photographs there are about president lincoln. the family that wrote the book, holds the largest collection of photographs of abraham lincoln, from the first known photographs of him to the very last just prior to his death. what a remarkable goal to aspire to; collecting the images of the sixteenth president.

what are you reading?
