miscellaneous monday
miscellaneous monday at the whimsey project! our day to share all the stuff we don't share the rest of the week. bring on your miscellaneous!
the book i am currently reading, the fire line, was snagged at the local book. i purchased it in a very special way. there is a rolling shelf that contains books wrapped in plain paper. written on the paper is hints about the book inside as well as it being fiction or non-fiction. the proceeds from the sale of the unrevealed books support worthy causes in the community. recommended purchase price is three dollars. i only read non-fiction, so that was the book i was after. after paying, the wrapper was opened to expose the book inside. a good one. what course of action would have been taken had the book not appealed to me? give it back so they could sell it again!

book detour! yesterday i was at the new local bookstore. found a book there that required immediate attention. fernanda santos' the fire line is the true story of the members of the granite mountain hotshots. the wildfire fighters who perished in the 2013 wildfire that suddenly took on a life of it's own, trapping them. i knew it would be a sad read but i wanted to read it anyway. so the journal has begun.

miscellaneous monday at the whimsey project! our day to share all the stuff we don't share the rest of the week! what say you about miscellaneous?
over the weekend, i was strolling the lawn. as i passed the holly tree i heard a low hum. it caught my attention so i paused to listen to the hum. what was that? why does the holly tree sound like it's humming? it was humming because it was swarming with bees! this was exciting, given the bee crisis. i noticed that very tiny flowers were forming on the tree. ah! the reason why the tree was swarming with bees; thus why the holly tree seemed to be humming! it was whimsical! go bees!

a new book begins today. logbook for grace, written by robert cushman murphy. the book is comprise of the diary he kept on a whaling ship. a naturalist, he wrote about the world, the whaling process and special notations for his wife. the diary became the book thirty five years later. so far i have read the editor's note. this will be a grand adventure.

one of the many perks of being a grandparent is getting to repeat the attending of school functions. it's the same but it's very different from doing said activities with children. grandson was the lead in the lion king jr. over the weekend. he made a great simba (of course) and we were all very proud of him. now it's time to go home!

lily of the valley success! after twenty years of trying to grow lily of the valley we have finally done it! pips do best when transplanted from established beds. while searching for a source, we planted store bought pips. failure on both fronts. a friend in pennsylvania shared pips with us this year. not only do we have plants, a few of those plants have blossoms! yay!
