are you keeping a daily whimsical moments notebook for 2020? what is a daily whimsical moments notebook? it's any recording system that suits in which to record a daily moment that pulls attention; that brings a moment of delight, pause, thoughtfulness. some days more than one moment catches attention so record more than one! if you aren't yet keeping a daily whimsical moments notebook, today is a great day to begin.

from time to time throughout the year we offer something we have written in our daily whimsical moments notebook. let's do so today. for january 6th, i wrote: cold morning, seeing waif doggie's breath as she barks! for january 22nd, i wrote: bald eagle on the frozen lake. the first was recorded because it made me giggle and the second was recorded because it was so impressive i was enthralled by the bird's presence.

share whimsical moments from your notebook with the whimsey project.

e.h.

you are not your age,
nor the size of clothes you wear,
you are not a weight,
or the colour of your hair.
you are not your name,
or the dimples in your cheeks,
you are all the books you read,
and all the words you speak,
you are your croaky morning voice,
and the smiles you try to hide,
you're the sweetness in your laughter,
and every tear you've cried,
you're the songs you sing so loudly,
when you know you're all alone,
you're the places that you've been to,
and the one that you call home,
you're the things that you believe in
and the people that you love,
you're the photos in your bedroom,
and the future you dream of,
you're made of so much beauty
but it seems that you forgot,
when you decided that you were defined,
by all the things you're not.

whimsical wednesday

we will be undertaking an investigation for whimsical wednesday. look in the kitchen cupboard and select an item that is sold by weight, such as a can of vegetables, a box of dry pasta, a bag of chips, anything you wish to select that has not yet been opened. open the package and count how many chips, green beans, spaghetti strands. how many is contained per weight of the package? report your findings to the whimsey project. (did you munch any while counting?!... *giggle*)

*this morning counting commenced when a new bag of chocolate chips (weighing 1 pound, 14 ounces) was opened in order to move the chips from the bag to a container. the bag contained 907 chips. a discovery in the counting that was somewhat satisfying: the chocolate chips were irregular in shape and size. and, yes, i did munch while counting!

whimsical wednesday

it's journal writing day for whimsical wednesday; an endeavor we undertake in months that have five wednesdays. if you don't keep a journal, today is a great day to begin.  what type of journal should one keep? for reference here are my journals:

*a personal journal.
*a memories notebook in which i record random memories. since i don't write in this notebook every day or all that often, really, when a memory comes to mind i write it on a list of memories i keep for when i do write in the memories notebook.
*a themed notebook in which i record life on my farm.
*a notable notebook in which a record random ideas, thoughts, quotes, etc.
*the daily whimsical moments notebook in which i record a moment (or moments) each day that particularly caught my attention; moments that provoked thoughtfulness, a smile, a laugh or something to share with others.

keeping any journal is a wonderful way to pay attention and connect with life, self and others. what manner of journal do you keep that is unique to yourself that others might employ? share with the whimsey project.

another daily practice for the whimsey project is keeping a daily whimsical moment notebook. if you do not keep such a notebook, today, for the year 2020, is a great day to begin.  in any notebook or writing vehicle of your choosing, record a daily whimsical moment. if there's more than one moment that really caught your attention, record them all. there's never too much whimsey to enjoy!

my second annual cookie exchange gathering is saturday, december 14th, so it's time to get busy; which makes cookie baking the perfect activity for whimsical wednesday! you could take time to decide what cookies you wish to bake in the next few weeks or bake cookies too or, best of all, share a cookie recipe with the whimsey project!

my cookie baking will be with two others who are participating in the exchange as we decided it would be fun to bake together. we are each making a recipe utilizing a cake mix. my cookie choice is rocky road, a chocolate cookie that includes marshmallows, nuts and chocolate chips.  the recipe:

*1 box of chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
*2 large eggs
*1/2 cup vegetable oil

mix eggs and oil then add to the cake mix until all the ingredients are thoroughly blended.

add one or two or all, one at a time and mix thoroughly:
*1/4 to 1/3 cup chopped nuts
*1/4 to 1/3 cup mini marshmallows
*1/4 to 1/3 cup chocolate chips

*arrange teaspoons of dough on greased cookie sheets with a bit of space in between each cookie.
*bake in a 350 degree preheated oven for 10 minutes, checking at 8 minutes for doneness as ovens vary.
*after removing from the oven let rest for two minutes than remove the cookies from the cookie sheet.
