solitude sunday at the whimsey project. our day to spend time with a book. my book continues to be, because reading is slow these days, eric larson's the splendid and the vile: a sage of churchill, family and defiance during the blitz. what are you reading? share your book with the whimsey project.

whimsical wednesday
we are creating a mandela using natural items for whimsical wednesday. what is a mandela? a mandela is a representation in art in the form of a circle. it can be created via any medium: painting, fabric, chalk on a sidewalk, rocks, just to offer a few examples.
gather whatever natural items you would like to use in your mandela. you can take a walk and gather your items or use items you have at home. then enjoy the process of arranging those items in a pleasing circular pattern.
*this early morning i was outside wandering about the farm as i picked up several feathers from the ducks, geese, guineas and chickens; as well as picked queen anne's lace blossoms to create the natural mandela. here's the result of my gatherings:

whimsical wednesday
we are creating visual art for whimsical wednesday. we are creating but the goal is to share the effort with someone else! draw HALF of anything with any instrument such as crayons or use HALF of pictures from a magazine. once you have completed your partial masterpiece, tuck it in an envelope and send it off to someone to finish! include a friendly note as to the purpose of the joint creation and ask them to send you a photo of the completed work.
i drew the following for my favorite four year old and put it in the mail to him. i'm looking forward to his parents sending me a photo of his half of the drawing when it will then be complete!

whimsical wednesday
it's the first whimsical wednesday of the month so it's time to learn something new! what new do you want to learn? continue with a learning process already begun or tackle something you haven't tried before? what will you learn? share your learning adventure with the whimsey project.
while rummaging in my knit and crochet supplies, i found a crochet hook that has a hook on either end. intrigued, i did an on-line search for what this double-ended hook is used for. it seems there is a process called tunisian and one called double-ended. i will be exploring how to use my newly discovered double-ended crochet hook.
*an internet search yielded tutorial videos demonstrating tunisian crochet for left handed crafters as i am decidedly left handed. after spending a few hours watching and attempting, i made a reasonably decent practice piece. this is a great crochet technique and i will continue to learn it.
