robert cushman murphy's, logbook for grace, is at a very cold place. at the bottom of the world, the daisy is being pitched every which way and it is very cold.  between the temperature and the rough waters, there is little to do but hang on.

there are two raccoon mamas running around the farm with kits! one is a young mama with two babies. the other mama has five! for awhile we didn't realize it was two separate mamas and their kits. we kept seeing what we thought was the same family! one day the mama with the five kits ran across the back of the house. not too much later a mama with two kits followed the same route! i recently read that raccoon babies stay in the nest until they are two months old. that's why we have seen the mama(s) well before we seen the kits with the mamas. they are so cute. they have been around the farm for so long that they and the cats don't bother each other; they regard one another from afar. and they all share very politely as the cat food is, of course, what draws the raccoons near the house. and this is just the raccoon entertainment!

another chapter of logbook for grace by robert cushman murphy is completed. he discussed crossing the equator as the daisy continued south. hunting whales along the way. one interesting experience was stopping at an island that was a penal colony. as october comes to an end, the daisy crossed the tropic of capricorn.

we're putting stuff away for whimsical wednesday! yes, it does conjure images of back breaking, never ending housework. however, look at the task from a whimsical perspective. you could change items in your house to refresh the look. tired of a painting, vase or other decorative object? put it away. replace it with something else! got photos that need sorting? do so and put them away. want to take stock of your art supplies? begin by putting them away! i always see what i have when i clear the desk of all piled up utensils. how about collections? rotate them. add some, put some away. rearrange them, put them some where new. same with houseplants. have fun putting stuff away and feel refreshed! or you could just put stuff away. that's ok too.

robert cushman murphy's, logbook for grace, continues. since the book is written as a diary, it is somewhat disjointed. however, the last several days i have been reading about in the month of august, has revealed a continuity not often experienced when reading a book in this format. one factor that stands out is murphy's lament of lack of space and privacy.
